About This Spot

Stepping into Flanagan's Irish Pub in the heart of Dunedin feels like slipping into a corner of Ireland nestled quietly alongside Main Street. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, a comfortable blend of dim lighting and rich, dark woods that encourage lingering over good conversation and even better drinks. This is a place where the pace slows just enough to savor the moment, whether you’re here to catch up with friends or simply enjoy some time alone among familiar faces and the gentle hum of an eclectic playlist.

Flanagan's strikes a balance between a cozy neighborhood spot and an authentically lively pub, especially as Saturday nights bring the soulful energy of live Irish music. The hum of laughter, the clink of glasses, and the occasional cheer offer a subtle soundtrack to the experience — unhurried, genuine, and inviting.

Food here is comfort made special, honoring Irish culinary roots while embracing a bit of local flavor. Think beyond the plate: the rich aroma of Guinness gravy and aged whiskey wafts gently through the air, setting the stage for dishes that feel like a warm welcome. From the hearty shepherd’s pie layered with melted cheese and savory beef, to crisp, golden fish and chips served fresh—not just a meal but a shared moment, a taste that sparks stories and smiles. Even the casual bites, like pretzel sticks dipped in beer cheese or a well-crafted Dublin burger, carry a sense of thoughtfulness that makes each bite feel like a small celebration.

Patrons often praise the genuine friendliness that flows from the staff as richly as the stout from the taps. This is a place where service bends to the rhythm of the room: attentive but never rushed, familiar without being overbearing. The bartenders know their craft — from pouring a perfect Guinness to recommending a warming shot of Irish whiskey that suits any mood.

Flanagan's offers more than a menu; it offers a pause, a connection, a little corner of home away from home. Whether it’s a simple pint, a savory plate, or the comfort of shared laughter, you’ll find yourself wanting to return, drawn by the sincerity of its charm and the warmth of its hearth.

Relaxing home town feel with comfort food for the Irish. The bangers and mash are a favorite of mine. The fish and chips look great and plentiful too. Harp on tap is a bonus since I don't see that everywhere. Live Irish music on Saturday nights is fun.

We loved this place! Guinness and Smithwicks were on the list of beers, among many others. Good food, reasonable prices, and our server, Bea, was super friendly and really helpful.

I ordered the fish and chips with trepidation. Fish and chips can easily go horribly wrong, frozen fish sticks, batter that could have been Wonder Bread wrapped around a chunk of mystery white fish before hitting the oil, Sometimes the oil may have needed changing a couple weeks before, you know what I mean, but much to my delight the fish and chips at Flanagan's were a successful order, cooked perfectly, 2 nice sized pieces of golden brown, crisp battered fish. Fries can be the second part of a fish and chip order than can go crooked in a hurry, however the homemade, perfectly cooked and seasoned lightly fries were excellent. Thank-you for the great lunch time meal on a busy Saturday. My wife very much enjoyed the shepherds pie,

Small, dimly lit Irish pub that seemed very popular with the locals. Limited but adequate seating and an eclectic mix of music. The service was a bit slow as the bartender was the server as well. But he was nice. The Guinness is served tall foamy and dark (as is proper). I had the Fish and Chips. The fish was crispy and flavorful, but portions of the fish were a tad mushy. However, the steak fries were awesome - tender crispy outside, soft inside, salted just right. Suggest to lightly dip these in tartar sauce We also had The Flanagan sandwich. This had tasty corned beef complimented with slaw and pickles. Served on a yummy pretzel bun. If you’re looking for some good Irish fare, this might be the place.

Awesome little place. Burgers were great. I’ll be back soon for the Poutine and the Fish n Chips for sure. Bartender knows how to build a proper Guinness!

1st time in Dunedin and walked into the right spot! This place was amazing, great good, good service, cool atmosphere, great music and jams! It had it all! A must visit if you're in the mood for some Irish food and a good drink! Recommendations- Irish nachos, corn beef cabbage, and the pretzel things, you can thank me later.
